Congratulations to the Institute for Holocaust and Genocide Studies (IHGS) on their second Harry W. Salon Foundation grant in 12 months. This $8,750 grant will fund two community projects co-sponsored by IHGS and Congregation Achduth Vesholom.
One community partnership project will bring Ferne Pearlstein to Fort Wayne’s Cinema Center for a screening of her film, The Last Laugh. The documentary features world-famous Jewish comedians discussing free speech and comedic boundaries relating to humor about large-scale tragedies such as the Holocaust.
The grant will also contribute toward providing a keynote speaker for the Holocaust Symposium for Pre-Service Teachers, taking place May 13–18 on our campus. This symposium, co-sponsored by IHGS and Congregation Achduth Vesholom’s Holocaust Education Committee, educates future secondary school teachers how to teach topics like the Holocaust and genocide.
If you are a pre-service teacher interested in attending the symposium or want more information, contact Dr. Lee Roberts.
