We are saddened to inform our readers that a faculty member has passed away. For just over 20 years, Thomas (Tom) Hey taught students in IPFW’s Department of Political Science. Tom began at IPFW as a student before graduating from DePaul University, after which he pursued a doctorate at IU Bloomington. Due to Tom’s areas of expertise, Professor Mike Downs tapped Tom for a teaching fellowship that brought him back to Fort Wayne. Ever since, at IPFW and Ivy Tech, Tom taught a generation of political science students in our region with both great insight and style.
“Tom had a great connection with students,” shared Professor Michael Wolf, chair of political science. “His high standards never prevented him from making class engaging and fun. Tom made sure to connect broader American culture to politics through film, books, graphic novels, sports, you name it. Plus Tom had a great laugh and cutting wit that made his analyses of politics and critiques of politicians that much more vivid. We will all miss that.”
All are invited to a celebration of Tom’s life that will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum, 2410 Fairfield Ave., Fort Wayne. Tom’s obituary can be read here.
